Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) has similar uses to other cellulose ethers, primarily serving as a dispersant, suspending agent, thickener, emulsifier, stabilizer, and adhesive in various applications. It surpasses other cellulose ethers in solubility, dispersibility, clarity, and enzyme resistance. In the food and construction industries, it is used as an additive. Due to its adhesive and film-forming properties, its ability to thicken and disperse liquids, and retain moisture, it is used as an adhesive, thickener, dispersant, stabilizer, and emulsifier. HPMC also has applications in synthetic resin polymerization, ceramics, papermaking, leather, cosmetics, coatings, building materials, and photosensitive printing plates.
